Excel to Word Conversion
Spreadsheets are built for calculating and organizing data, but they're often the wrong format for sharing that data with someone else. A report, a printed handout, or a document attached to an email usually calls for a normal page-based document rather than a grid of cells scrolling off in every direction.
This tool reads a .xlsx spreadsheet and rebuilds each sheet as a proper table inside a Word (.docx) document - the sheet's data laid out the way a word processor expects it, ready to format further, print, or send on.
Everything runs online, so there's nothing to install and no software to download. Upload your spreadsheet, choose a few options, and get back a single Word document.
What gets converted
Each visible sheet in your workbook becomes its own table, with the sheet's name as an optional heading above it and the first row optionally bolded as a header. Text, numbers, and dates are converted to their displayed values - a date-formatted cell is shown as a readable date rather than the internal serial number Excel actually stores.
To keep the result reliable and predictable, some things are intentionally left out: cell background colors and fills, merged cells, a formula's underlying expression (its last calculated result is used instead), charts, and embedded images. What comes through is the data itself, laid out cleanly as a table.
Why convert Excel to Word?
A Word document is the format most people expect for something meant to be read as a document - a report, a printed handout, a set of meeting notes, or an appendix - rather than a spreadsheet someone has to open in Excel just to glance at.
It's also simply easier to work with for that purpose: you can add paragraphs of explanation around a table, apply Word's own formatting, insert page breaks, or drop the table into a larger document, none of which a spreadsheet is well suited for.
Common uses for a converted document
Once your spreadsheet is converted, it's ready for the situations that call for a normal document rather than a workbook:
- Turning a data export or report into something you can annotate and send as a Word file
- Including a spreadsheet's contents as a table inside a larger report or proposal
- Sharing tabular data with someone who doesn't have Excel or prefers Word
- Printing a clean, page-based version of a sheet instead of Excel's print layout
- Archiving spreadsheet data in a format that opens the same way on virtually any device
Choosing your conversion options
"Sheets to convert" lets you bring in every visible sheet in the workbook, or just the first one if that's all you need - hidden sheets are always skipped automatically.
"Page orientation" controls whether pages are Portrait or Landscape; a sheet with many columns usually reads better in Landscape, since it gives each column more room before text starts wrapping.
The two checkboxes control presentation: showing each sheet's name as a heading helps when a document has more than one table, and bolding the first row is the usual way to mark it as a header when your data has one.
How to convert Excel to Word for free?
Upload a .xlsx file by dragging it into the drop area or choosing it from your device, pick your sheets, orientation, and header options, then click Convert to Word. Once the conversion finishes, you'll see how many sheets were converted and the file size before downloading the result.
This Excel to Word converter works entirely online, so it runs the same way on Windows, macOS, Linux, Chromebooks, and mobile browsers - there is no software to install on any device.
Remember to download your document soon after conversion. For your security, our system automatically deletes uploads and converted files from temporary storage after a short period.
Is it safe to convert Excel to Word here?

Uploaded spreadsheets and the resulting document are not reviewed manually, are not shared with third parties, and are automatically removed from our system a short time after processing. You can read the full details on our Privacy Policy page.
